In 1879, the first brewery named "New Bohemia" began operations in Azov. Its founder and first owner was Evdokim Fedorovich Kotelevets, a well-known entrepreneur and alcohol magnate, as he might be called today. The brewery is still referred to by Kotelevets' name. Before the revolution, it was one of the largest employers in the city. With the arrival of Soviet power, Kotelevets was forced to hide and leave the city. For some time, the brewery was managed by a former church elder, Belzer, and later the enterprise became state-owned.

The "New Bohemia" brewery outlived its owner, the Russian Empire, and the USSR, operating until the 1990s, after which it was finally closed. Some buildings of the brewery have been preserved, and its main structure was officially recognized a few years ago as an architectural monument and an object of cultural heritage of regional significance.
