Almost a hundred years ago, the first Russian emigrants arrived in Serbia, introducing the locals to Russian cuisine. In Belgrade, Russian emigrants gathered in restaurants such as 'Russian Tsar', 'Yalta' on Dobrinjska Street, 'Firebird' on Negosh Street (Flower Street), 'Bear' on Dositejeva Street, 'Russian Corner' on Milosa Velikog Street, and 'Mimosa' on Kolarec Street. The most famous Russian restaurant in Belgrade was 'Russian Tsar', which opened in 1890. It was named after Russian Tsar Alexander II and existed in the city for 122 years. 'Russian Tsar' attracted renowned writers, cultural figures, athletes, military personnel, and politicians. For many years, the restaurant remained a pride of Belgrade and its calling card. Many considered it a symbol of the historical friendship and kinship between Russia and Serbia.
