In the Villa Borghese park, there is a small but very cozy monument to Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin. The bronze figure of the poet, sitting on a bench, is lost in thought.

This monument was a gift from Moscow to Rome. It was created by Russian sculptor Yuri Orekhov and was unveiled in 2000 to commemorate the 201st anniversary of Pushkin's birth.

On the monument, in addition to the dates of the poet's life, are engraved lines:

“Chi conosce la terra dove il cielo

Risplende d’ineffabile azzurro…?

Italia terra incantata,

Contrada di elevate ispirazioni.”

These lines can be translated as:

“Who knows the place where the sky

Shines with ineffable blue…?

Italy enchanted land,

Region of elevated inspiration.”

At the opening ceremony of the monument, Russian President Vladimir Putin was present. He noted that it was Pushkin who opened the doors to the wonderful world of Italian culture for the Russian people. Putin also emphasized that Russia will always remember the contribution of Italians to the development of Russian culture and expresses gratitude for this.
