At the end of 2017, the Kostroma Cheese Museum opened in the historical center of Kostroma, in an old merchant mansion from the late 18th century, not far from the Volga embankment and Ostrovsky's gazebo. This location was chosen for a reason: Kostroma cheese is famous throughout Russia, and the city is called the "cheese capital of the country." In 2017, Kostroma ranked third in the gastronomic rating of Russian cities.

The idea of creating the museum arose as a way to attract tourists. There is also a shop where visitors can purchase "Kostroma gold" for themselves and their loved ones. The cheese in the shop is beautifully packaged and vacuum-sealed. The assortment includes various types, from soft to semi-hard, such as Kostroma parmesan, gruyere, maasdam, chevre, and burrata. In addition to cheese, beautiful Kostroma souvenirs can also be found here. Tours of the museum are conducted in an interactive format. Cheerful and colorful cheese sommeliers guide guests through the halls, sharing interesting and unusual facts about cheese-making, as well as stories and anecdotes. The museum also features collections of cows and cheese-making tools. Visitors learn about the stages of cheese preparation and ancient instruments, and can try milking a cow and catching mice. During tastings, they are taught how to properly consume and store cheese, with samples of the best Kostroma varieties offered.

The museum offers several tours to choose from. The most popular, "Cheese Stories," is suitable for both adults and children from 3 years old. The program lasts 40 minutes, and with tasting, 1 hour. Adults are offered cheese with wine, while children are served juice.

For adults, there is also a lecture-tasting called "Cheese Dietology," where a nutrition specialist explains how to properly consume cheese for maximum benefit in 30 minutes and shares secrets of the cheese diet. The tasting includes various cheeses and cheese fondue.

For children aged 7 to 12, there is a program called "Mouse Trap." For 40 minutes, children solve riddles and complete tasks as they move through all the museum's halls. At the end of the quest, a sweet treat awaits them.
