The museum showcases the history of chocolate, spanning over four thousand years. The exhibition tells about the founders of the Pokrov factory Shtolverk, which has been operating in Pokrov since 1997. In 2001, the enterprise was acquired by the American corporation Kraft Foods, one of the largest chocolate producers in Russia, which became the initiator of creating this unusual museum for the Vladimir region.

In 2003, the "Chocolate Museum" won a competition for new tourist museum programs and exhibitions organized by the committee for physical culture, sports, and tourism of the Vladimir region administration. The exhibition is located in the building of the Pokrov local history museum and until recently occupied only one room. In 2010, the museum reopened after a six-month reconstruction. It is now one of the most modern museums in Russia, with its management system operating on "Smart Home" technology.
