The Ryazan Museum of Travelers was founded on May 18, 2012. The idea of creating such a museum in Ryazan has been around for a long time, as this city has given the world many famous geographers, navigators, and explorers who have glorified both their homeland and all of Russia. Among them are V. M. Golovnin, P. P. Semenov-Tyan-Shansky, P. V. Povalishin, and A. P. Avinov, who participated in circumnavigation expeditions and discovered new lands.

Today, the Ryazan Museum of Travelers actively collaborates with the Russian Geographical Society. As part of this cooperation, significant events and visits from foreign delegations are held, including the arrival of the leader of the Eskimo tribe, Nastasia. Scientific research and international connections have contributed to the museum's popularity, attracting well-known scientists such as N. N. Drozdov, A. V. Semenov-Tyan-Shansky, and A. Yu. Petrov. The museum's scientific work includes expeditions that gather important information about the cultures of various peoples. Special attention is paid to Alaska, where museum staff organized several expeditions, and based on the collected data, a popular exhibition titled 'Russian America' was created.

One of the directions of the museum's scientific work has been the study of the life and legacy of Pyotr Petrovich Semenov-Tyan-Shansky. As part of the project 'Heroes of Ryazan Land,' museum staff followed the routes of the famous explorer, collecting extensive material for a future exhibition planned to be placed in house No. 64 on Voznesenskaya Street. The museum also plans to create a Travelers' Alley in the Upper City Garden.
