A monument has been erected at the burial site of Yakov Vasilyevich Mamin, a renowned mechanic and inventor in the field of diesel and tractor technologies.

Yakov Mamin was born into a peasant family in the village of Balakovo. After finishing parish school, he began apprenticing with a tinsmith and later worked in the workshop of F.A. Blinov, the creator of the first Russian caterpillar tractor with a steam engine. Mamin invented a two-share plow, for which he was awarded a small silver medal at the exhibition in Saratov in 1893, and also created a fire pump, for which he received a medal and a prize of 300 rubles at the exhibition in Penza. Later, he opened his own workshop and improved Blinov's steam engine for the tractor.

In 1906, Mamin developed an original engine that ran on heavy fuels such as oil, named the 'Russian Diesel.' Based on this engine, he created the wheeled tractor 'Russian Tractor.' From 1914 (although there are reports that production began in 1913, 1912, 1911, or even in 1910), four tractors were produced with engines ranging from 25 to 60 horsepower. With the onset of World War I, Mamin's factory received military orders, but Yakov Vasilyevich continued to work on tractors and in 1919 created the 16-horsepower tractor 'Gnome,' followed by a simplified 12-horsepower 'Dwarf.'

In 1921, he tested a lightweight electric plow in the fields of the Timiryazev Academy. In 1924, successful tests were conducted on the 'Dwarf' tractor, built at the 'Revival' factory in Markshtadt, in the experimental fields of the same academy. Professor V.P. Goryachkin approved this invention as the simplest type of agricultural tractor. The 'Dwarf' tractor was produced at the 'Revival' factory in Markshtadt from 1924 to 1928. In 1937, Mamin moved to Chelyabinsk, where he worked as a researcher at the Institute of Agricultural Mechanization, first in the Department of Thermal Engineering and then in the Department of Tractors and Automobiles. He passed away in 1955.
