The Seraphim of Sarov Temple in Kuncevo

Фото 1
In September 1917, the Holy Synod decided to make the Kuncevo courtyard of the Polunin Cross Exaltation community independent. Nun Seraphima was appointed the head of the Kuncevo monastery. This was a difficult time for the Orthodox, and Seraphima's community also faced challenges. In 1918, the community's property and church were confiscated. To continue services, they had to sign an agreement with the local authorities and compile an inventory of the property, which was done that same year.

By the end of 1922, the community was dissolved, leaving only the church, which became a parish. The church faced hardships; in 1922, 44 silver items and a large bell were seized, allegedly to help the starving.

The clergy and parishioners of the Seraphim of Sarov Temple in Kuncevo faced a tragic fate. The first rector, Archpriest Alexander Vladimirovich Rusinov, was born in 1878 and served from 1907 to 1922. He witnessed the construction of the church and the difficult years of the revolution. In 1938, he was shot at the Butovo firing range and is now recognized as a holy new martyr and confessor of Russia.

The second rector, Priest Sergey Felitsyn, led the church in 1926. Sergey Nikolayevich Felitsyn was born in 1895 in the village of Pogost Troitsy in the Moscow region. His father was a priest, and he graduated from the Moscow Spiritual Seminary and Academy. In 1937, he was arrested and shot along with Deacon V.I. Krasnokutsky and another church servant. Felitsyn and Krasnokutsky were also recognized as new martyrs and confessors of Russia.

After the church was closed, its building was used for various needs: first as children's institutions, then as production enterprises, such as the Mechanical Transport Factory, furniture fittings factory, and others. Next to the church, a brick bell tower was preserved, which was used as a residential building and forge after the church's closure. During this time, the bell tower lost its second tier, and the holy gates were destroyed. The wooden bell tower and residential houses on the community's territory were demolished, while other buildings appeared during the Soviet period.

In 1999, Patriarch Alexy II visited the church, and in 2000 it became a courtyard of the Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery. In 2006, the church received the status of a Patriarchal courtyard.

In 2004, part of the buildings caught fire at night, allowing part of the territory to be removed from the cultural heritage protection law. Soon, the territory was sold to an LLC. Now, after several ownership changes, a residential building is under construction.
