The village of Banisshi is first mentioned in the Rylsk land registry of 1678 as an inherited property of the Rylsk Nikolayevsky Monastery. In 1682, the first wooden church of the Intercession of the Holy Virgin appeared in the village, which was taxed from one monastery yard, 25 peasant households, and 13 landless households, amounting to 24 altyns and 2 dengi (73 kopecks). The documents mention the priest of this church, Father Mark.

In 1735-1737, peasants Mikhail Aldunin and Alexander Ustinov from the village of Banisshi, belonging to the Rylsk Nikolayevsky Monastery, filed a complaint with the Government Senate against the abbot Pafnutiy Lukashev, accusing him of abuses. However, the investigation conducted by the Collegium of Economics found no guilt on Pafnutiy's part. Aldunin was punished for false accusations: he was sent to the Investigative Commission for punishment by whipping, cutting of nostrils, and exile to Orenburg.

The construction of a new stone church of the Intercession of the Holy Virgin began in 1878. The villagers actively participated in the construction, making bricks at the Brick Farm and delivering them to the site. The mortar for the masonry was mixed with egg yolks. The church was consecrated in 1880.

During the Soviet era, the church in Banisshi, its priests, and parishioners experienced difficult times. During the war, the village was occupied by German troops, and the church's bell tower was used as an observation point and a place for a sniper. In the Soviet period, the church was temporarily closed, but later services resumed and continue to this day.

In recent years, the church has been undergoing repairs thanks to the help of a benefactor from Kursk. A mosaic icon of the Intercession of the Holy Virgin has been installed at the western entrance to the church.
