Initially, a "Fisherman and Hunter Room" was planned in the Yasenskaya stanitsa, but later, considering the interest of local residents in history, a nature museum and a Room of Military and Labor Glory were opened. These exhibitions first welcomed visitors in February 1977. The first exhibits began to arrive on March 5, 1976, as recorded in the nature museum's accession book. This day is considered the founding date of the museum in Yasenskaya.

An important role in the creation of the museum was played by the chairman of the collective farm, Anatoly Alexandrovich Sinchilo, who donated more than ten stuffed birds and other exhibits to the museum. A significant contribution to the organization of the museum was made by the director of the House of Culture, Ivan Yakovlevich Malikov, who initially worked on a voluntary basis and was its manager from 1985 to 1988. The artistic design was carried out by artists V.F. Kirevnin and V.D. Lopyrev.

Most of the stuffed animals presented in the museum were made by amateur taxidermists Leonid Alexandrovich Chaga and Nikolai Ilyich Ozheredov. They donated part of their collections to the museum at its inception, while the remaining exhibits were added gradually.

The museum quickly became popular and attracted many visitors. In 1984, the Yasenskaya Nature Museum was awarded the Great Commemorative Medal of the All-Russian Society for Nature Conservation.

In 1989, Nikolai Sergeevich Basin, a graduate of the history faculty of Kuban State University, became the museum's manager. During this period, work began on expanding the museum and creating a new exhibition that met modern standards. Basin actively sought items for the new exhibition, which allowed the creation of sections such as "Yasensky Natural Territorial Complex," "From the Distant Past," "Cossack Life," "Pages Scented with Gunpowder," and others. The artistic design of the exhibition was carried out by artists from the House of Culture, V.A. Tregub and M.V. Shvedchikov. Necessary accounting for museum work was established.

In 1992, the museum was awarded the title of "People's Museum." It was visited by residents from over 700 settlements of the former Soviet Union and foreigners from 53 countries, who took warm memories of the Kuban land and its culture with them.

In 1997, the museum was visited by the Chairman of the Government of Russia, Viktor Chernomyrdin. Among the museum's guests were also well-known military and state figures.

Since January 1, 2007, the Yasensky People's Museum became the municipal institution "Yeysk District Local History Museum" with branches in the stanitsas of Dolzhanskaya, Kamyshevataya, and Kopanskaya. As of January 1, 2012, the museum had 10,570 main units and 3,111 units of scientific auxiliary funds.

The museum's work, diverse in content and forms, contributes to the moral and aesthetic education of the population, awakening love for nature and history. Over the past five years, about 50,000 people have visited the museum, and 1,770 excursions have been conducted.

In 2008, the museum became a laureate of the "Public Recognition" sign for winning in the nomination "Best Cultural Institution of the Yeysk District."
