In 1834, after visiting the Ipatiev Monastery, Emperor Nicholas I ordered the restoration of the archbishop's residence to its "ancient appearance." New gates with a chapel dedicated to Saints Chrysanthus and Daria were to replace the former Holy Gates. The "Kostroma Diocesan Gazette" described the idea of creating a new church, noting that in 1612 and 1812, Russia faced severe trials, and March 19 became a symbolic day of salvation for the country. In 1613, Tsar Mikhail Fyodorovich left the Ipatiev Monastery to restore order in Russia, and in 1814, Emperor Alexander the Blessed entered Paris to pacify Europe. In memory of these events, Nicholas I ordered the construction of a church in the monastery in honor of the holy martyrs Chrysanthus and Daria, whose feast is celebrated on March 19. The walls of the church were planned to depict the procession of Mikhail Fyodorovich and Alexander I's entry into Paris. Significant funds were allocated for the construction of the church. In 1836, the eastern facade of the archbishop's residence and the remnants of the ancient gates were dismantled to build new ones with a chapel according to the design of provincial architect Utin. The main creator of the 19th-century monastery ensemble, including the church, was Professor of Architecture K.A. Ton. On June 25, 1840, on the birthday of Nicholas I, the church in honor of Saints Chrysanthus and Daria was laid in the monastery. The facade of the church matched the facade of the Green Tower, which was located on the opposite side of the monastery. Construction progressed quickly, but on August 2, 1841, the church vaults collapsed due to the haste of the work and adverse weather. After investigating the causes of the collapse, new foundations were laid, and in 1852, under the design of architect N.P. Grigoriev, new construction began. This time, the work was completed successfully, and in 1859, the church was consecrated by Bishop Platon of Kostroma and Galich, a well-known church scholar and writer.

On November 4, 2005, Archbishop Alexander of Kostroma and Galich consecrated the cross installed on the church on November 15. On April 6, 2008, Archbishop Alexander, along with clergy and residents of the monastery, conducted the rite of great consecration and the Divine Liturgy, marking a worthy conclusion to the efforts of the faithful and ascetics of our time.
