To the east of the Trinity Cathedral is the Intercession tent church. It was built on the basis of a small private grand princely Trinity temple, which had a high basement with deep vaulted cellars. Like other churches of the Alexandrov settlement from the early 16th century, the church was constructed from brick and white stone. The squat brick tent, considered the prototype of all subsequent tent churches, was covered with tiles. The altar and tent were painted in the 1570s, and some frescoes have survived to this day. The entrance white stone portals were adorned with elegant carvings. Palace chambers with cellars adjoined the church. In 1680, when the parish Trinity church was left without clergy, services in it ceased. By the decree of Tsar Feodor Alexeyevich and the blessing of Patriarch Joachim, the church was transferred to the Assumption convent with the order to expand the altar, build an altar in honor of the great martyr Theodore Stratilates, and a warm refectory. In 1680-1681, large-scale construction work was carried out in the monastery and the Trinity church, for which the Tsar allocated no less than 700 rubles from the treasury. The work was overseen by clerks from Moscow, as well as pipe makers from the Grand Palace and other craftsmen. From June 1681, the construction of the Assumption convent was managed by deacon Semyon Kudryavtsev from the Trinity-Sergius Monastery.

Many craftsmen worked on the construction: stonemasons and carpenters from Moscow, the Trinity-Sergius Monastery, Yaroslavl, Suzdal, and other places. The townspeople of Alexandrov and the surrounding areas extracted white and rubble stone, produced lime and brick. White stone stairs with porches were added to the refectory part of the church, a tent porch from the south and a porch with passage halls from the north, as well as a third porch under the bell tower from the west. The roofs were covered with shingles until the early 19th century, the windows had mica inserts, and there were wrought iron grilles on the first floor. Three oak crosses on the church were covered with iron, the floor in the refectory was laid with oak bricks and polished with wax. Three stoves decorated with white and green tiles were installed for heating.

A stone bell tower, characteristic of the 17th century, was added from the west, with four tiers and an octagonal belfry topped with a tent. The bell tower housed 9 bells and a clock, referred to as "combat Russian iron clocks," which measured time by the sunrise and sunset. There was a cell for the nun clock keepers near the bell tower. On the lower floor under the church were the refectory, kitchen, and bakery, as well as cells for the nuns.

After the reconstruction in 1682, the church was consecrated in honor of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The altar housed a sacristy, as a separate church was consecrated in honor of the great martyr Theodore Stratilates. Archimandrite Leonid Kavelin, describing the Assumption monastery at the end of the 19th century, noted that the Intercession church served as a winter church for the daily services of the nuns, thanks to the convenient refectory. For the convenience of the elderly abbess and nuns, a wooden covered passage was built connecting the church with the abbess's house.

From the 18th century to the early 20th century, the Intercession church underwent numerous repairs and the iconostases were updated. In the 1860s, the walls of the refectory part were decorated with paintings. In March 1922, precious coverings and vestments from icons were confiscated to aid the starving, and in April, the most valuable vestments, basmen frames, and icons from the 17th-18th centuries were transferred to museum funds. In early 1923, the Intercession church, like other churches of the monastery, was closed. Currently, the church houses a permanent exhibition of the "Alexandrovskaya Sloboda" museum.
