The chapel building, constructed in 1702, is located at a site known since the 12th century. According to legend, it was here that the Chernigov prince Michael Vsevolodovich was miraculously healed, who had suffered from a severe ailment resembling cerebral palsy since childhood. Upon learning of the miracles occurring at the Pereyaslavl Nikitsky Monastery thanks to the venerable Nikita, the prince decided to seek help. Arriving at Pereyaslavl, he camped nearby the monastery and sent a boyar to inform Nikita of his arrival. Venerable Nikita gave the messenger a staff so that the prince could come to him leaning on it. As soon as Michael took the staff in his hands, he felt an improvement and was able to walk to the monastery on his own, which was a significant achievement for him.

After the healing, the prince ordered a memorial cross to be erected at this site with the date of the event, May 16, 1186. In the early 18th century, a brick chapel in the Moscow Baroque style was built at the site of the cross. This tall building consists of two octagons: the lower, wider one, and the upper, smaller one, topped with a small drum and a dome. All corners of the octagons are rounded, giving the chapel smooth outlines. The walls are decorated with half-columns and carved friezes, while the base features carvings. The interior decoration of the chapel suffered greatly during the Soviet era: the white stone floor tiles were dug up in search of treasure, and the plaster was partially knocked off. Later restorations of the paintings are visible, under which older layers of paint peek through. On the wall opposite the entrance, there was an inscription: 'This chapel was erected by the blessed Prince Michael of Chernigov in memory of this place where he received from the venerable Nikita the Stylite the staff and healing from his ailment.'

In 1969, under the guidance of architect I.B. Purishev, restoration work was carried out: the roof, external carvings were restored, and the floor tiles were replaced. Currently, the chapel is in a neglected state and is deteriorating. It is located in the city cemetery and is heavily overgrown with trees, making it difficult to find among the cemetery fences and crosses, especially in summer. In winter, with some effort, the chapel can even be seen from the highway.
