Alexey Alexandrovich Bakhrushin, a Russian merchant and hereditary honorary citizen, was known as a manufacturing advisor, patron, and collector of theatrical relics, as well as the founder of a private literary and theatrical museum.

He was born in 1865 in Moscow into the family of merchant Alexander Alexeyevich Bakhrushin. He had two older brothers, Vladimir and Sergey, and three sisters: Klavdiya, Vera, and Maria. From childhood, his parents instilled in him a love for art and theater. His grandfather, Alexey Fyodorovich, wrote poetry, and his father was fluent in foreign languages. Many family members were passionate about collecting. The Bakhrushins were known in old Moscow as benefactors. From the age of six, Alexey became a regular viewer at the Bolshoi Theater, later becoming a fan of the Maly Theater and even tried his hand on stage at the Perlov Theater Circle.

In 1876 and 1879, Alexey studied at the private gymnasium of F. Kreyman. In 1888, he joined the family business, "Partnership of Leather and Cloth Manufacturing Alexey Bakhrushin and Sons," and until 1890, he actively engaged in trade and industrial activities. However, becoming engrossed in collecting, he gradually stepped away from business. After the death of his older brother, he had to lead the family business until 1917. For his achievements in industry, he was awarded several gold medals and the Order of St. Anna of the 3rd degree.

Bakhrushin was also actively involved in public life. He was a member of the Moscow Stock Exchange Society, the Council of the Russian Theater Society, an honorary member of the Council of the Yakimanka City Charity for the Poor, and a member of the Council of the Brothers Bakhrushin Hospital and Maternity Home.

Additionally, he was a member of the Moscow City Duma in 1900 and 1916, where he headed the commission for public entertainment. The commission decided to open 12 public houses in Moscow, and in 1915, Bakhrushin was appointed their manager. The first house he managed was the Vvedensky, where he created a permanent theatrical troupe with the participation of Ivan Mozzhukhin.

In 1904 and 1913, the Bakhrushin family rented the dacha of N. D. Telezhov in Malakhovka, where, on Alexey's initiative and financial support, a gymnasium was established. In May 1913, he purchased his own estate in the Moscow region, the Afineyevo estate in the Vereysky district, which was reconstructed by I. E. Bondarenko. In 1916, the house burned down, and the family rented a dacha in the village of Malye Gorki.

Alexey Alexandrovich was married to Vera Vasilievna Nosova, the daughter of merchant V. D. Nosov. Their wedding took place on April 19, 1895, at the Church of the Holy Trinity in Kozhevniky. They had three children: Yuri, Alexander, and Kira.
