The first mention of Voronovitsa dates back to 1545. In 1748, Voronovitsa received city status and came into the possession of the Polish magnate Mikhail Grocholsky, who began the construction of the palace.

After the last representative of the Grocholsky family moved to Austria, in 1869 the estate was sold at auction in Odessa to Nikolai Fedorovich Mozhaysky, whose life soon ended tragically. Subsequently, the estate passed to his brother, Alexander Fedorovich Mozhaysky, who became famous as the designer of the world's first airplane, ahead of the Wright brothers by 20 years. In the village of Voronovitsa, Alexander Fedorovich conducted scientific research that preceded the creation of the flying machine. He studied the conditions of horizontal flight using birds as an example. It was here that V. Mozhaysky created his first model: a glider was tied to a troika of horses, and when the horses began to pull the cart from a high hill, the glider would take off and follow them.
