The Russian diaspora is also present in El Salvador, consisting of 12 people. They are descendants of emigrants who left Russia and the Soviet Union at different times.

Don Alessandro, who has served as consul for 20 years, has learned only a few Russian words, as he has no opportunity to practice. Russian delegations are rare here, but even without knowledge of the Russian language, he is an ideal candidate for our Foreign Ministry, being one of the most respected people in El Salvador. By local standards, he is almost an oligarch, and his father is from Odessa.

Don Alessandro's father left Russia after the revolution. The Bolsheviks made such an impression on him that he forbade his wife to wear red. Nevertheless, the Maier family does not forget their homeland, as everyone has Russian names.

In San Salvador, where two and a half million people live, there are only twelve Russians. They meet rarely, usually in small groups. The Russian consul has tried to gather them all at one table several times, for example, on New Year's, May 1, but he misses March 8 the most. Of the 12 Russians in El Salvador, 10 are women, and the two men simply lack a third at the celebrations.

Roman Ustinov, who traveled through El Salvador hitchhiking, described the following situation: upon entering a decent store, he saw a T-shirt with the Russian inscription "WE ARE EVERYWHERE" in the window. He thought it was indeed true. The saleswoman, noticing his interest, began to praise the T-shirt, not immediately realizing that he was a foreigner. He does look somewhat Salvadoran. When she understood, she asked him to translate the inscription. Roman explained that the T-shirt was made not in Russia, but in Haiti. There was a two-headed eagle depicted on the back. He exclaimed that he wouldn't mind paying a dollar for such a T-shirt. The saleswoman decided to bargain, offering a price of two dollars. In the end, they settled on one and a half.

He wouldn't wear such a T-shirt in Moscow, but in Latin America, it is quite appropriate.

Russians sometimes rent spaces for church services. However, life away from their homeland is not easy here, as there is no Russian Foreign Ministry representative office in El Salvador. The nearest diplomatic representation of Russia is in Nicaragua.
