The Museum of the History of the urban district of Kokhma, which is a municipal budget institution, was founded in 2007. Its collection includes exhibits that illuminate the history of the city of Kokhma and the Ivanovo region, tell about outstanding and talented local residents, as well as the traditions of the Russian people. The museum's funds hold about a thousand items, including antique objects, porcelain, paintings, books, and decorative and applied arts.

The museum is located in a building constructed in 1889 by the Yasyuninsky merchants for the Kokhma two-class school, which became a Higher Primary School in 1912. This building is recognized as a monument of history and architecture and is an object of cultural heritage of local significance.
