The Exaltation Church became the central element of the estate ensemble of the princes Saltykovs from the early 19th century. The church was built over seven years and was consecrated in 1813, becoming the burial place for the princes Saltykovs. A crypt was created under the altar, where the prince himself, his wife Natalia Vladimirovna, their son Prince Sergey Nikolaevich, and grandson Prince Alexey Dmitrievich were buried.

The name of the church is associated with N.I. Saltykov's desire to honor the memory of his ancestors, boyar Mikhailo Glebovich and his sons, who founded an Orthodox monastery in the Smolensk lands in the 17th century. One of the brothers, Feodor Mikhailovich, took monastic vows under the name Sergius.

According to legend, General Field Marshal Nikolai Ivanovich Saltykov, receiving a mortal wound in battle, vowed to build a church in honor of the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross.

Initially, the church was summer, with three altars: the main altar rose on three steps due to the crypt arranged beneath it, while altars were located on the sides in honor of the Holy Life-Giving Trinity and the Descent of the Holy Spirit. Services were held during the warm season.

In 1889, a winter church with heating was added to the summer church, connected by a passage that closed with double glass doors in winter. The winter church had two altars in honor of the Protection of the Mother of God and Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker. The modestly decorated winter church was intended for quiet prayer and services during the cold season, on the days of Great Lent, as well as for reading the Psalter and monastic rules.

Since 1887, a parish school operated in the house of Prince Saltykov, and in the early 19th century, a charitable institution was built near the church. The church also owned a wooden chapel in the cemetery.

In 1915, the construction of a stone bell tower began in Snegirëvo, but it was interrupted due to the war.

During the Soviet years, the church was neither closed nor repaired. In the early 1990s, parishioners conducted a major renovation.

Since 1993, the church has become a dependency of the Holy Assumption Women's Monastery. In 2003, a wooden chapel dedicated to the Myrrhbearers was built on the territory of the dependency.
