The Kalacheevskaya cave, located in the Voronezh region, is the longest in the area, with a total length of about 1 km. It is situated on the eastern slope of a large chalk outcrop on the right bank of the Toluchievka River, within the city limits of Kalach.

The entrance to the cave is located in the middle part of the outcrop, and it is mainly oriented to the west. At the end of the main gallery, a spiral passage begins, leading to the upper level. Previously, there was a monastery here, and the cave's rooms were used for both religious and economic purposes.

It is difficult to determine exactly when the creation of these caves began and when the monastery operated, as no direct evidence has survived. However, indirect data suggest that the caves started to be excavated in the 13th-14th centuries, and their creation occurred in several stages.

Work carried out in the 17th-18th centuries changed the appearance of the caves, adapting them for religious purposes.

The Kalacheevskaya cave is a complex labyrinth that differs from other caves in the Voronezh region. For example, the stasidia here are in the form of open resting places, widening towards the head, unlike the niches in the walls at floor level typical of other caves.

In the southern part of the cave, there is a cave temple with Royal and side gates, at the edges of which are cut-out kiots for icons. In the northeastern part of the altar, there is an elevation, likely serving as an altar, as well as two pedestals for relics.

An interesting feature of the Kalacheevskaya cave is the graffiti on the pilasters of one of the corridors, depicting palm branches, which in Ancient Rome symbolized victory. For early Christians, this was a symbol of victory over temptations and death through resurrection, often depicted in Roman catacombs.

Also, in the lower part of one of the pilasters, there is a catacomb cross "Sign of Victory," common in early Christian catacombs.

The cave has a trap in the form of a circular staircase that leads to the second floor and then returns back.

Currently, the Kalacheevskaya cave is being intensively destroyed due to natural and anthropogenic factors. Urgent conservation of this monument, which holds many mysteries, is necessary.
