The stone church dedicated to the Tikhvin Icon of the Mother of God was built in the village of Kekino in 1814. The parish included the village of Kekino and the villages of Nikolskoye, Aleksandrovka, Trishkino, Ledyr, Old and New Dmitrievki, as well as other settlements. According to the Diocesan Address Calendar of 1888, the parish had more than two and a half thousand people: 1345 men and 1441 women. The church owned 36 desyatins of land, but after the 1917 revolution, it was confiscated for public use.

Old-timers recall that on July 9, the feast day of the Tikhvin Icon of the Mother of God, a fair was held in the square in front of the church. After the prayer service, trading and festivities began, attracting merchants from Kazan, Kurmysh, Yadrin, and other places. The second altar is celebrated on December 19, the feast day of Saint Nicholas, Archbishop of Myra in Lycia, the miracle worker. The third altar was consecrated in honor of Saint Dmitry of Rostov, a prominent figure of the Russian Orthodox Church and author of the book "Great Menologies of the Church," which contains the lives of saints.

Around 1932, the church was closed and turned into a collective farm warehouse. Church utensils were dismantled by parishioners and moved to prayer houses. Even in a dilapidated state, the church impresses with its size, preserved wall masonry, and dome. The narthex was two stories high and heated. For some time, nuns expelled after the closure of monasteries lived on the second floor, which led to the place being called a "monastery."

After the church was closed, prayer houses appeared in the village. Worship services, which gathered residents from all over Pourzhye, were held in the stone house of Mikhail Tupitsin, located opposite the church. Then, until the mid-1950s, services took place in the house of Yevdokiya Ivanovna Zubkova.

Since 2012, restoration work on the church has begun: scaffolding has been erected, and a cross has appeared on the dome, symbolizing the salvation and revival of the shrine.
