Church of the Smolensk Icon of the Mother of God in Uglich

In the late 17th century, stone construction began in the monastery. From 1689 to 1700, Uglich craftsmen, under the guidance of Abbess Elena, built the Church of the Epiphany of the Lord with an altar dedicated to the Smolensk Mother of God. The lower floor housed a church in honor of the apostles John the Theologian and Andrew the First-Called. In 1775, an altar of John the Merciful and Dimitri of Rostov was arranged in a neighboring room. However, in 1840, due to inconveniences and darkness, all these churches were abolished, and a hospital was opened in their place. In October 1853, after the consecration of the new Epiphany Cathedral, the old Epiphany Church was closed. In 1854, the main altar was consecrated in honor of the Smolensk Icon of the Mother of God, and the northern altar, in honor of the Elevation of the Life-Giving Cross of the Lord, was later abolished and used as a sacristy.

The Smolensk Church is a typical five-domed refectory church on a basement, resembling the Church of the Odigitria of the Resurrection Monastery and the Introduction Church of the Nikolai-Uleyminsky Monastery. Originally, the church had a porch with two staircases and a tent-like bell tower. In the 19th century, the porch was replaced with a new one in the classical style on the northern side, topped with a spire and cross. On the southern side, a small tent was built in place of the porch. During the restoration from 1970 to 1975, it was dismantled, and two arches were built in the place of the opening, repeating the shapes of the western gallery. The tent-like bell tower stood on a small tent, of which the lower part has survived. It was dismantled due to dilapidation after the construction of a new bell tower at the Feodorovskaya Church. Documents related to the church's construction in 1689 contain information about a lost bell tower that may have resembled the bell towers of the Church of the Nativity of John the Baptist 'on the Volga' and the Introduction Church of the Nikolai-Uleyminsky Monastery. No images of the bell tower have survived.

The interior of the church originally featured a five-tiered gilded iconostasis, with no paintings. In 1854, a new three-tiered iconostasis with gilded details and red paint under lacquer was installed. It included many icons from the 17th-18th centuries. At this time, the church was painted, and the temple part featured paintings on the theme of miracles from the Smolensk Icon of the Mother of God, which are now lost. In the Elevation altar, the ceiling depicts the Mother of God and the verse 'All creation rejoices in You, O Gracious One.' The painting of the temple part, consisting of small panels in ornamental frames, is close to the traditional church painting of the 17th-18th centuries.

Currently, the sisters reside in the Church of the Smolensk Icon of the Mother of God.
