The village of Prepolovinka appeared after Empress Catherine II's journey along the Volga, when she gifted the surrounding lands to the Orlov family. In 1838, Vladimir Petrovich Orlov-Davydov, the grandson of Vladimir Orlov, built a stone church in Prepolovinka.

The architecture of the church is unusual: the bell tower resembles a lighthouse on the seashore. The temple could accommodate up to 800 people and had an active parish school.

In 1922, the church was closed and became a grain storage facility, while the icons and church utensils were destroyed. During the Great Patriotic War, the building housed a barracks for the Levachevsky training squadron. The cadets made a wooden ceiling, and their sleeping quarters ended up on the second floor, while the aerodrome technicians were on the first.

After the war, the church was again used as a grain storage facility, and the bell tower was converted into a water tower. Due to constant dampness, all the frescoes inside the church perished.

In the early 1990s, the church reopened for services, with parishioners taking care of cleaning and repairs. On July 3, 1992, domes were installed on the temple, and in 2009, bells were returned to the bell tower. Since October 2008, services have been held regularly, and electricity was brought to the church in the summer of the same year. A boiler house was built in 2011. Restoration work on the church continues.
