Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker in Alexino

Фото 1
In the village of Alexino, before the construction of the stone church, there was a wooden church of St. Nicholas the Bishop with chapels dedicated to three Saints and the martyr Savin. The upper chapel was dedicated to St. Basil of Caesarea, while the refectory housed the martyr Paraskeva. This wooden church existed until 1827.

In 1790, the landowner Zakrevsky sold part of the village and land to Count Alexander Romanovich Vorontsov, son of Count Roman Illarionovich Vorontsov, the first governor of Vladimir. Vorontsov owned the Andreevskoye estate, which played a significant role in the history of Russia. He was an outstanding statesman, particularly noted for his diplomacy. Alexander Romanovich maintained friendly relations with architect Nikolai Alexandrovich Lvov, under whose project the stone church in the village of Matarino, Roshchino was built. Vorontsov's correspondence with the manager indicates his active involvement in the construction of the church in Matarino. He ordered to start with the bell tower, determined the construction site, and promised to provide bricks for the bell tower. The bell tower in Matarino was completed in 1798.

After this event, the residents of Alexino decided to raise funds for the construction of a stone bell tower and then a church in their village. Count Vorontsov donated 500 rubles for this purpose. In 1832, the stone three-altar church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker was consecrated in Alexino, with chapels dedicated to the Archangel Michael and the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God in the refectory. There were sufficient funds for construction, so the "Historical and Statistical Description" states that the church has five domes, and the bell tower was built simultaneously with the church. The architecture of the bell tower in Alexino resembles the bell tower of the Resurrection Church in Matarino, but it is one tier lower.

In the 1930s, during the Soviet era, the Nikolskaya Church in Alexino was closed and desecrated, later being used for economic purposes. Restoration began in the early 2010s. Today, the church is actively being restored: plastering work has been completed, windows have been installed, the roof has been renewed, and heating stoves have been built. The architectural appearance has changed, and now the church has one dome instead of five. In the summer, services and memorials are held in the church.
