The Archangel's throne in Kolomna dates back to around the mid-14th century. By the 16th century, a complex of two churches had formed here: the Miracle of Archangel Michael in Khonakh and the Cathedral of Archistrategos Michael. At this time, there were already passage gates in the wooden fortress walls of Kolomna between the Marinkina and Granovitaya towers, named Mikhailovskaya, and the settlement at the foot of the Kremlin opposite them became known as Mikhailovskaya, sometimes Archangel's. After the Time of Troubles, the church fell into disrepair. In 1700, with the funds of parishioners, a stone church of Archangel Michael with an altar of the Three Hierarchs was built. The church acquired its modern appearance after the reconstruction of parts of the previous stone church. In 1806, thanks to Kolomna merchants Roman, Avksenty, and Yakov Kolesnikov, the refectory was reconstructed and enlarged, with altars established in honor of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God and the Three Hierarchs. In 1828 and 1833, the same merchants, along with brothers Vavila and Vasily Konstantinov, carried out a major reconstruction of the church. In the cold part of the church, the main altar was consecrated in honor of the Cathedral of Archistrategos Michael and other Heavenly Powers, while in the refectory, the altars were in honor of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God, the Three Hierarchs, and the martyrs Faith, Hope, Love, and their mother Sophia. The oldest part of the church remained the bell tower. In 1906, with the funds of church elder and benefactor Ioann Postnikov, an altar of St. Seraphim of Sarov was arranged in the refectory. By the early 20th century, a complex of a five-altar church had formed. Three altars, the central one of the Cathedral of the Powers of Archistrategos Michael and two side ones, of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God and the Three Hierarchs, were located in the summer church. Two more were located in the warm refectory of St. Seraphim of Sarov and the martyrs Faith, Hope, Love, and their mother Sophia. This was the largest and one of the richest churches in Kolomna. In the 1930s, the church was closed, and the bell tower was destroyed. The building housed a warehouse and then an office. In 1936, the building was transferred to the Kolomna Local History Museum. In 2006, the city administration decided to move the museum to another building, and the following year, the church of Archistrategos Michael was returned to the Church for restoration and worship. With the funds of the Government of the Moscow Region in 2007, for the celebration of the Day of Slavic Writing and Culture, the altar part and the square of the church were restored. In seven months, the roof was replaced, the roof of the altar and rotunda was covered with copper, the cross and dome were remade and gilded, the facade was plastered, white stone decorations were restored, and new windows were installed. The internal restoration was carried out with the funds of the Moscow Diocese. In four months, internal partitions were dismantled, cracks in the vault were reinforced and sealed, white stone floors were restored, walls were plastered, and the heating system was completely replaced. In May 2007, a Palekh iconostasis was installed in the church, gifted by His Eminence Juvenaly, the Metropolitan of Kolomna and Krutitsy. On May 28, on the Day of the Holy Spirit, the first Divine Liturgy was held in the church. In 2008, the church bell tower was fully restored. On November 21, 2008, the Church of Archangel Michael, the largest in Kolomna, was solemnly consecrated with the Great Consecration performed by His Eminence Juvenaly, the Metropolitan of Kolomna and Krutitsy.
