Grigory Khristoforovich Bakhchisaraytsev, a native of Nakhichevan-on-Don, was one of the prominent entrepreneurs and public figures of pre-revolutionary Rostov-on-Don. At that time, Nakhichevan was a separate city. Born in 1852 into a well-off Armenian family, whose ancestors migrated to the Don region to escape the Turkish genocide during the reign of Catherine the Great, he received an excellent home education.

Grigory Khristoforovich became a successful businessman and at the age of 30 took the position of a member of the Rostov City Duma, which he held until 1917. His profitable house, which has survived to this day, is now the central department store of Rostov-on-Don. As a merchant of the 2nd guild, he, along with his brother Emmanuel, was one of the largest shoe traders. He also owned land with a large garden in the Simferopol district and houses in Nakhichevan and Rostov.

Grigory Khristoforovich actively participated in public life, being a member of the Duma and holding positions in the street paving commission, trade delegation, and city tax commission. Since 1915, he was also an honorary justice of the peace in the Rostov judicial district. Additionally, he is known as the chairman of the gardeners' society and the organizer of the first tree planting festival in Rostov-on-Don, which was held from 1910 until the revolution. During this time, he also edited the Rostov magazine 'Gardener.'

After the arrival of Soviet power, Grigory Khristoforovich lost almost all his property, his health deteriorated significantly, and he passed away in 1920.
