The history of the railway in Kuban began on July 2, 1872, when the charter of the Rostov-Vladikavkaz railway was approved in St. Petersburg. The founders committed to building two lines: the Rostov-Vladikavkaz and the Novorossiysk, which ran from the Tikhoretskaya station through Ekaterinodar to Novorossiysk. The construction deadlines were strictly adhered to: the first line began operations on July 2, 1875, and the second on June 25, 1888.

Later, additional branches were put into operation, such as the Mineralnye Vody, Petrovsk-Derbent, Derbent-Baku, Caucasian-Ekaterinodar, Azov, and Ekaterinodar lines. By 1887-1888, a station building was constructed in Ekaterinodar, a two-story brick structure with single-story extensions from the waiting hall. The building, covering an area of 308 square fathoms, was adorned with turrets, stone lace, and red tiles. The platform was paved with asphalt. The station area included a post office and 40 residential houses for management and staff, as well as a railway school for the children of railway workers and a house for teachers.

The main builder of the Vladikavkaz railway was Baron Rudolf Vasilievich Steingel. During World War II, the Krasnodar station was destroyed, but after the city was liberated, restoration work began. Seven years later, on May 21, 1952, the grand opening of the new Krasnodar-1 station building took place, designed by architect G. Voloshin. The new station was larger than the previous one, and its distinctive feature was a clock with a diameter of 2 meters 20 centimeters, made by craftsmen from the Moscow Mechanical Institute.

With the development of the city, the station again failed to meet the needs of a large city, and its building was renovated. The modern station became more attractive, spacious, and convenient. However, how long its areas will meet the needs of the constantly growing city remains unknown.
