The monastery was founded in the mid-16th century by Princess Euphrosinia Staritskaya, the widow of Prince Andrei Staritsky, who was the uncle of Tsar Ivan the Terrible.

At that time, there was already a monastery in Kirillov, and in Goritsy, there were a wooden Voskresenskaya obrok church and an Introduced church. Princess Euphrosinia replaced the wooden Voskresenskaya church with a stone one, with an altar dedicated to St. Cyril of Belozersk the Miracle Worker, in 1544, which is considered the year of the monastery's founding. At the same time, a new warm church in honor of the Mother of God of the Guide was built, along with a refectory. In 1611, nun Martha built a square bell tower with four openings for bells above the Voskresensky Cathedral.

On the territory of the monastery in 1821, under the abbess Mauricia Khodnevaya, a stone three-altar warm church in honor of the Holy Trinity was erected on the eastern side of the Voskresenskaya church, at the burial site of princess nuns Eudokia and Alexandra, replacing a wooden chapel.

Also, in 1832, with the funds of Princess Khovanskaya, in the schema of Paraskeva, a stone, warm, two-story Pokrovskaya church was built, located in the enclosure on the eastern side of the monastery.

Outside the monastery walls in 1905, under abbess Adriana, a monastery pier and a stone chapel in honor of John the Baptist were constructed opposite the northwestern corner of the monastery. Outside the monastery, there were also wooden utility buildings, cattle yards, storages, and other structures.
