The old water tower, presumably built in the 1890s, is one of the few towers of the Ryazan-Ural Railway that has retained its original roof shape. A similar tower can be seen at the Moscow-Tovarnaya Pavletskaya station, but in worse condition.

A fragment of brickwork. In the report by mining engineer M.F. Shulgin "On the Water Supply of the City of Penza," yellow marl clays are mentioned, containing many small stones the size of hemp seeds, which are used for brick production. These clays also contain bones of large animals that lived after the Tertiary period.

On the plaque placed above the tower's door, it says: OAO "RZD". Water tower of the Penza-3 station. Built in 1896 for refueling steam locomotives with water.
