Once, while on a pilgrimage to Kyiv, Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich made a stop at the Gremyachy Monastery. He was struck by the beauty of this place, and on the monastery hill, later named "Conversation," it is said that the Holy Virgin appeared to him and spoke with him for a long time. Soon, the pious tsar allocated funds from the treasury for the construction of a large stone cathedral in the monastery in honor of the Assumption of the Mother of God.

The majestic five-domed Assumption Cathedral was built and consecrated in the 1680s. Initially, a low open gallery in the form of a porch adjoined the cathedral, and on the southern side, there was a small wooden bell tower. It housed a 15-pud bell with an inscription stating that it was cast in 1674 through the efforts of the abbot Cornelius and the brotherhood. By the early 19th century, the wooden bell tower had deteriorated, and a new one was built in the classical style. Previously, a brick kitchen adjoined the western part of the refectory, but it was later dismantled, and the bricks were used for the construction of the bell tower.

In 1764, after the abolition of the Gremyachy Monastery, the monastery churches became parish churches, and all the land within the enclosure turned into a necropolis.

Revolutionary events had little effect on the appearance of the monastery churches, and services continued until 1935, when both churches in the village of Gremyachevo were closed. Local residents took the church icons to their homes. In the 1990s, when services resumed, one icon returned to the monastery, the image of the Prophet Elijah, while the icon of the Assumption of the Holy Virgin was transferred to the Moscow Church of Elijah on Obidenka. Today, the cathedral has been restored, and services are held there.
