The Koltsovo Estate was founded in the late 18th century by General Vasily Alexandrovich Kar and remained in the possession of his heirs until 1814. In 1775, Vasily Kar purchased the Kaluga estate of the Golitsyn princes at auction, the village of Goryainovo, where there was a wooden manor house. The estate was designed on a grand scale: a new house with two wide wings ending in round towers.

After Vasily Kar's death, his widow Maria Sergeyevna built the Pokrovskaya Church in the style of Catherine's Baroque in 1819. After her death, the estate passed to her son, Rittmeister Sergey Vasilyevich Kar. He first renamed Goryainovo to Sergievskoe, but in 1843 he lost the magnificent estate in a card game.

The estate was acquired by Mikhail Mikhailovich Osorgin, and from the mid-19th century until 1918, its history was closely linked to this family. Osorgin, holding the rank of staff Rittmeister, retired in 1858 and settled in Sergievskoe.

His heir, Mikhail Osorgin II, brought water supply from an automatic pump, replaced the steam engine with an oil one, installed a mill and an American thresher, and engaged in planting forests. Greenhouses and a distillery appeared on the estate. In 1894, a brotherhood of the righteous Juliana Lazarevskaya, known for its good deeds, was founded here.

In 1918, the owners were forced to leave the estate, after which the Bolsheviks renamed Sergievskoe to Koltsovo in honor of the poet Alexei Koltsov. In 1923, the main manor house burned down.

From the luxurious estate, only the abandoned bell tower of the Pokrovskaya Church, built in 1819, and the church parish school, which was later rebuilt and used as a sanatorium for the Kaluga Turbine Plant, remain. Now there is a rest house on this site.
