The representative mansion, now known as property No. 27, is located in the Alexeyevskaya Sloboda on Alexander Solzhenitsyn Street. It was built in the 1820s-1830s by merchants Vasily and Pavel Chelyshev on the basis of an older building from the late 18th century. Pavel Chelyshev also owned a hotel in Theater Square, known as 'Chelyshi', with popular trading baths. In its place, a hotel called 'Metropol' was built at the end of the 19th century.

In 1835, the estate passed to the Alekseyev merchants, owners of a factory producing gold and silver items. They also owned the neighboring mansion on the same street.

In 1860, the Alekseyevs sold the house to Abram Morozov, retaining the neighboring property. Here, Morozov settled with his wife Varvara Alexeyevna (Khludova). Their sons Ivan, Mikhail, and Arseniy, future renowned collectors, were born in this house. On the plot extending to the modern Stanislavsky Street, estate buildings were constructed according to the designs of architects Nikolai Rozov and Mikhail Chichagov. The main house was designed in the neo-baroque style, with a beautiful fence and gates that have survived to this day.

After her husband's death in 1882, Varvara Morozova acquired a plot on Vozdvizhenka, where architect R.I. Klein built a mansion for her. Part of the estate on Bolshaya Alekseyevskaya housed a Crafts School for boys, founded by Varvara in 1873.

In 1897, Morozova sold the estate to the Moscow Merchant Society. After the reconstruction of the main house and the addition of floors to the wings according to the project of Sergey Solovyov, a House of Free Apartments for Merchant Widows opened here in 1907.

During the Soviet era, the building was converted into communal apartments, and the wings received an additional floor. Since 1963, the main house has housed the All-Russian Research Institute of Protein Synthesis, now JSC 'GosNIIsintzbelok', while part of the premises is occupied by commercial structures.

The estate is protected by the state as a cultural heritage site of federal significance.
