The museum was founded in the 1960s on a voluntary basis. Teachers from Tyumenets Secondary School, including Agniya Deomidovna Kocherova, and local historian Yuri Sergeyevich Orlov participated in its establishment. Orlov, along with his students, conducted excavations of burial mounds, and these findings became the foundation for the museum. In 1967, students and teachers of the school built a one-story brick building for the museum, and on November 6 of the same year, the Lenin School Museum was opened.

Since 2003, the museum has held the status of a municipal institution under the name "Tyumenets District Historical and Local Lore Museum." At that time, the museum's collections numbered around 500 items. Today, the main collection includes 5,078 items, among which are collections of ethnography, decorative and applied arts, numismatics, and others. Since 2011, the museum has actively participated in regional grant policies.

In 2017, the museum was reorganized and became part of the "Tyumenets District Historical and Local Lore Museum" sector within the MBUK "Multifunctional Cultural Center" of the Tyumenets District of Altai Krai. In the same year, the museum moved to a new building, which allowed for an increase in space, improved storage conditions, and updated equipment. An exhibition hall was created, making the museum more modern. The exhibition now presents a sequence of cultural and historical models from antiquity to the present. Thanks to the variety of authentic exhibits, models, interiors, and museum installations, the exhibition has become more educational and engaging.
