The Staroshcherbinovsky Museum is located in the center of the Staroshcherbinskaya stanitsa in a beautiful historical building constructed in 1912. It was previously owned by a prosperous Cossack named Krikun. The building has partially preserved its historical layout and facades and is currently a cultural and historical heritage site.

The museum settled in this building in 1985, having gone a long way from a school local lore club to a historical and local lore institution at the district level.

On January 18, 1991, at the request of the Department of Culture, by order of the Ministry of Culture of the RSFSR, for many years of work in educating youth and schoolchildren and significant contributions to the development of the local lore movement, the museum was awarded the honorary title of "People's Museum." On January 23, 2002, by the decree of the head of the Shcherbinovsky district of Krasnodar Krai, the museum became a municipal institution and was named after its founder, Maria Mitrofanovna Posternak.
