Alexander Yakovlevich Sozonov was born on December 4, 1925, in the village of Chazhegovo into a peasant family. He was a Komi-Permyak and received primary education, after which he worked on a collective farm.

In December 1942, he became a member of the Komsomol. In January 1943, he was drafted into the army, and from January 1944, he was at the front. Alexander served as a machine gunner in the tank landing company of the motorized battalion of the 107th Tank Brigade.

On March 10, 1944, he was one of the first to storm the city of Uman, where, firing from his machine gun, he killed up to 15 enemy soldiers. On March 17, 1944, while participating in a tank landing, Junior Sergeant Sozonov pursued the retreating enemy. Five kilometers from Tomashpol, he captured five enemy officers, including the commander of the 5th Romanian Rifle Regiment. During a hand-to-hand combat, Alexander sustained serious injuries but managed to bring the prisoners to headquarters.

On the same day, he died from his wounds in the hospital. By the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR on September 13, 1944, for exemplary performance of combat tasks and displayed courage and heroism, Junior Sergeant Alexander Yakovlevich Sozonov was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union.
