The Sanchursky Historical Museum was founded in November 1947. The museum's exhibition covers the period from 1584 to the present day. The museum's collections are presented in five halls: the historical hall, the Hall of Military Glory, the Hall of Folk Art, the exhibition hall, and the hall of honorary citizens.
The museum is located in a building that is a monument of architecture from the second half of the 19th century and was built in 1875. Currently, the museum's fund includes over 9000 exhibits.
Visitors are offered interactive and traveling exhibitions, museum lessons, vacation programs, as well as exhibitions of folk arts and crafts and decorative applied arts.
Events aimed at civic-patriotic education are held for students of educational institutions in the district.
The museum organizes conferences and meetings with notable residents, war and labor veterans, and actively participates in the interregional festival of Vyatka-Mari friendship "My Small Homeland." Every year, the Sanchursky Historical Museum takes part in the International event "Museum Night," during which various activities and exhibitions take place. The interregional exhibition-fair of folk arts and crafts and decorative applied arts "Masterovoy Arbat of Tsarevosanchursk" is becoming a tradition, featuring masters from Kirov, Vladimir, Nizhny Novgorod regions, and the Mari El Republic.
