The monument to Leonid Nikolayevich Trefolev is located in Yaroslavl at the intersection of Andropov and Trefolev streets, in the square in front of the Kazan Monastery.

Leonid Trefolev was a well-known historian and local historian from Yaroslavl, as well as a writer and poet. He was born in 1839 in Lyubim, a small town in the Yaroslavl province. He received his education at the Yaroslavl gymnasium and the Demidov Law Lyceum. After his studies, he worked as an assistant editor for the "Yaroslavl Provincial Gazette" and engaged in literature. He died in 1905 in Yaroslavl.

In memory of him, it was decided to erect a monument on the street where he lived. A memorial plaque is installed on the house where he resided in the 1870s.

The monument is a bust of Trefolev on a strict rectangular pedestal, adorned with bas-reliefs depicting the heroes of his works: Yaroslavl townspeople, peasants, and burlaks, whose hard lives he described. The location was chosen intentionally, as Trefolev lived and created here, on the former Varvarinskaya street. His poems include the lines: "As Kasyan, the Kamara peasant, sleeps on Varvarinskaya street."

The left bas-relief depicts a scene from the poem "Yamshchik," which became the folk song "When I Served as a Yamshchik at the Post." The rear bas-relief shows burlaks from the poem "Dubinushka," which also became one of the versions of the eponymous folk song. The right bas-relief presents a genre scene from village life.

The monument was unveiled in 1958, and its author is the sculptor A. N. Chernitsky.
