The monument 'Exodus', dedicated to the tragic events of the Civil War in Russia, is one of the newest attractions in Novorossiysk. It was installed on April 12, 2013, on the city embankment, from where nearly a hundred years ago the remnants of the White Army along with refugees left the country. These events are known as the 'Novorossiysk catastrophe', as it was planned to evacuate over 50,000 people from the port, but due to a lack of ships, only 33,000 were able to be evacuated. Under pressure from the Red Army, the remnants of the Whites along with civilians were forced to hastily leave their homeland. These events became a tragic page in Russian history, and the monument 'Exodus' serves as a reminder to the current generation of the inadmissibility of dividing the Motherland. The author of the sculpture, artist Alexander Suvorov from Novorossiysk, was inspired by scenes from the Soviet film 'Two Comrades Served', where the character played by Vladimir Vysotsky, a White Guard, is forced to shoot his battle horse that had rushed after the departing ship.
