The Museum of the History of Urai began its work in 1981. Exhibits for it were collected on a voluntary basis, and almost all residents of the city and nearby villages participated in its creation.

By the museum's fifth anniversary, its collection had 619 items, and today the funds number 26,783 items, distributed across 10 collections, including archaeology, photographic materials, numismatics, and others.

The museum has a permanent historical exhibition dedicated to the key stages of the city's development and formation. Six educational programs have been developed for young people: "My City", "University of Local History", "Overcoming", "Hello, Museum!", "From Local History to Love for the Land", and "Museum Holidays".

Visitors are offered field trips, lectures, an exhibition hall, and a stationary exhibition.
