The Mary Magdalene Desert was founded in 1849 at the initiative of the acting ataman G. A. Rashpil. The monastery was named in honor of the great august wife of the heir to the throne, Maria, and the holy equal-to-the-apostles Mary Magdalene. It was located in the bend of the Kirpili River between the stanitsas of Rogovskaya and Timashevskaya. By the early 20th century, the desert had transformed from a small community into a third-class monastery. At that time, it owned 840 desyatinas of land, and about 600 people lived in 14 stone and adobe buildings. The monastery had its own brick factory, two shops, a windmill, and two inns, as well as a branch of the Kuban women's correctional shelter and a church-parochial school for Cossack children. After the 1917 revolution, the desert was closed, and its property was transferred to the local commune.
Only on August 4, 1995, was a prayer service held in honor of the revival of the Mary Magdalene Desert, and the place was consecrated. The abbess of the monastery became the senior nun Sevastiana (in the world M. Lebedeva). The new monastery is located in the stanitsa of Rogovskaya, 7 km from the previous site, and occupies an area of 3 hectares. In 1997, Metropolitan Isidor of Ekaterinodar and Kuban consecrated a small summer church in honor of Mary Magdalene. Among the nuns of the monastery are a former weaver, a cultural worker, a plasterer, and a school graduate. The rules are strict, and only those who can endure the hardships of monastic life are accepted here.
