The Lutheran Church of St. Mary Magdalene is located in Voronezh at Karl Marx Street, 65, and belongs to the Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Augsburg Confession.

Protestant communities began to form in Voronezh in the early 18th century when Peter I invited foreigners to build a fleet. In the late 18th century, by decree of Catherine II, German immigrants settled in the Voronezh province, founding the settlement of Ribensdorf. Some of them settled in Voronezh, and in 1811 a decision was made to build a church.

The design of the building in the Empire style was developed by provincial architect F. K. Drevit. The church was consecrated on September 12, 1819, by Pastor Allendorf from Ribensdorf. In 1822, he moved to Tambov but continued to visit Voronezh twice a year until 1825 to conduct services. On February 23, 1825, Samuel Jacob Heller from Sarepta was appointed pastor in Ribensdorf, who visited Voronezh up to nine times a year for services at the Church of St. Mary Magdalene until 1864. After his death on May 4, 1864, the pastor of the Voronezh German Protestants became Kursk pastor Wichert, who visited until June 1865. From this time, the Voronezh community separated from Ribensdorf and received its own pastor. The Voronezh parish covered all districts of the province except for Ostrogozhsk.

In 1854, the church building was rebuilt, and major repairs were conducted in 1869, 1882, and 1897.

The Stolle family actively participated in the life of the community. City doctor Hermann Friedrichovich Stolle headed the church council for 30 years. With the family's funds, a charitable institution "Stolle's Asylum" was organized.

In 1938, the community was liquidated. At that time, a Baptist preacher was arrested in the building and later executed. From 1943, the building was used by the City Electric Network.

In 2008, the building was returned to the Lutheran community, which is part of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Augsburg Confession, and on April 20, 2008, it was consecrated by Pastor Anatoly Malakhov and representative of the ELCAI Konstantin Andreev. After repairs, the building is used for regular evangelical services.

In 2015, the rector of the church, priest Anatoly Malakhov, became the bishop of the Southern Church District of the ELCAI, and the Church of St. Mary Magdalene received the status of a cathedral.
