The bell tower was built from 1789 to 1799. On the second tier was the church of St. Nicholas, consecrated in 1806. In 2013, the Nicholas church was restored and consecrated, and in 2014, the complete restoration of the bell tower was finished.

After the monastery was closed, all the bells were removed, and it is still unknown where the large bell is located. According to one version, it is submerged at the bottom of the Satys River. The bell tower was equipped with clock chimes made by master Kobylyin from Tula. They played the melody "Who will escape you, mortal hour?", while the minute bell reminded of the fleetingness of life. The old mechanism did not survive, and for a long time, the bell tower had simply clocks without chimes, operating from a mechanism from 1961. During the Soviet and post-Soviet periods, the bell tower was used as a television transmission tower. Only in 2012 were the technical platforms and equipment removed, and a new dome was installed.

In December 2013, the restored gate church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker from 1806 was consecrated, with the service led by Metropolitan Georgy of Nizhny Novgorod and Arzamas. The church was completely renovated: foreign structures were removed, engineering networks and window blocks were replaced, and major repairs were conducted. The church was not only restored but also repainted in an academic style, like in the Zosimo-Savvatievsky church.

In 2014, during restoration work, the Holy Gates were opened, revealing preserved frescoes. During the Soviet era, there was a false ceiling, and the arches were glazed like windows. After removing the excess, the vault with frescoes from the monastery's time, ornaments, and Christian symbols was revealed. On the sides, above the doorways, remnants of narrative frescoes, damaged by ceiling beams, remained, but most of it survived.

In April of the same year, bells were raised to the bell tower for the restored chimes, and the townspeople once again heard the melodic ringing of the clock. By August 2014, the bell tower had fully regained its historical appearance.
