The Kirsanov Local History Museum, one of the oldest in the Tambov region, was founded in 1923. It is located in a building constructed in 1860, which is a monument of history and culture. This building belonged to merchant Mityayev, who converted it into a merchant club.

On the stage of the club, such famous personalities performed as the Russian Soviet writer V. A. Gilyarovsky, the great Russian singer F. I. Shalyapin, the People's Artist of the RSFSR V. F. Lebedev, and the People's Artist of the USSR N. A. Annenkov.

During the establishment of Soviet power in the district, meetings of the Council of Workers, Peasants, and Red Army Deputies were held here. The building was nationalized and during the Civil War was transferred to the Red Army club. In 1923, the club was renamed the Workers' Club, which housed the only cinema in the city, "Modern," opened in 1912. Since 1946, the Kirsanov District Local History Museum has been located in this building.

The museum is famous for its collections of clocks, numismatics, samovars, as well as antique inlaid furniture from the estate of landlady Obolenskaya and upholstered furniture from the estate of B. N. Chicherin. Among the exhibits is also a bust of Kozma Prutkov and an armchair that belonged to A. M. Zhemchuzhnikov.
