The history of the Kungur John the Baptist Women's Monastery in the Perm Province dates back to 1820, when a small community of girls dedicated to spiritual life emerged in the village of Ordino, 28 versts from Kungur. They read the Psalter for the deceased and sang in the Ordino church, teaching girls literacy, prayers, and handicrafts. The girls lived with relatives. At this time, the elder Maria, one of the founders of the community, received a blessing from Elder Seraphim of Sarov with the instruction to return home, where she was awaited.

The sisters appealed to Bishop Dionysius of Perm with a request to relocate to Kungur, and in 1825 they settled in a stone house near the cemetery church. Their modesty and hard work attracted the attention of local residents, and in 1832 they acquired a plot of land and began the construction of a two-story house. In 1851, the community received official recognition, and merchant A. G. Pilikin became its patron.

In the 1850s, the first cell building was constructed, and in 1857, a site for a house church was consecrated. By 1860, the second and third buildings for a school and orphanage appeared. In 1868, the community was renamed a monastery, and Father Pavel Ivanovich Kholmogorov became its first priest.

In the 1870s, new buildings were constructed, and in 1877, a church in honor of Saints Panteleimon and Simeon of Verkhoturye was laid. By the end of the 19th century, the monastery was well-equipped but faced financial difficulties. It housed the abbess, 32 nuns, and 83 novices.

In the early 20th century, the construction of a new monastery church began, consecrated in 1914. By 1907, there were 350 nuns and novices living in the monastery. In 1920, the monastery was closed, and its buildings were transferred to the District Military Committee. In 1930, a labor commune for juvenile offenders was organized in its place, which later became a labor colony.

In 2004, a decision was made to revive the monastery, and in 2005 it was officially registered. In 2009, the first residents arrived at the monastery, and in 2015, restoration work on the monastery buildings began.
