The brick church of the Ascension of the Lord in Bolshaya Kamenka was built in the 1830s, but was closed by the Bolsheviks in 1929 and has not been operational since.

The book "Kaluga District during the Time of Mikhail Fyodorovich" from 1894 mentions that in 1628-1629, there was a burial site with the church of the Ascension of the Lord in Kamenka, located 14 versts from Kaluga (now the village of Kamenka, known as Voznesenskoye). It is noted that the church was burned during the war and was not restored by 1630, likely during the uprising of Ivan Bolotnikov.

In 1746, there was already a wooden church of the Ascension of the Lord, belonging to the estate of Ivan Semyonovich Korsakov. Three years later, a decree was issued to build a new church at the request of Captain Alexander and Andrey Vasilyevich Rimskiye-Korsakov in the village of Voznesenskoye instead of the old church.

It is worth noting that Kamenka was named Voznesenskoye in honor of the church, and the lands were owned by the Rimskiye-Korsakovs, known since the 14th century.

According to the book "Description and Alphabet to the Kaluga Atlas" from 1782, the village became known as Lazorevskoye, but the reason for this is unknown.

The appearance of the church and surrounding buildings can be learned from archives. The "Clerical Reports on the Churches of Kaluga District" indicate that in 1867, 1890, and 1900, the church was wooden, with an iron roof and a sturdy structure. On the church grounds stood two wooden houses for the priest and the psalmist, as well as a watchman's hut. In 1905, the church was cold and dilapidated, without a fence, and the time of the consecration of the altar in honor of the Ascension of the Lord is unknown.

In 1916, it was noted that in 1912, with the funds of parishioners and benefactors, a stone building with a bell tower was constructed, covered with iron. It had three chapels: the main one in honor of the Ascension of the Lord, and side ones in honor of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God and Saint George the Victorious. The area of the church lands was 2209 square fathoms. Nearby was the old wooden church on a stone foundation, where services were not held, and a wooden watchman's hut on a stone foundation.

Thus, the history of the church of the Ascension of the Lord begins long before 1630.

The church was closed in 1929.

During the war of 1941-1945, almost all the domes were destroyed by bombings. The wall paintings have not survived, and there are no floors, windows, or grilles. Those who remember the church before its destruction say that there were beautiful paintings on the walls, and on the floor, yellow tiles with blue patterns. At the end of the last century, "black diggers" searching for treasures destroyed the walls and dug up the floor, leaving it in pits.

Many mysterious stories are associated with the church. According to legend, after the revolution, clergymen hid many utensils made of precious metals in the walls and cellars of the church.

Today, the church building continues to deteriorate.
