In February 1879, the dismantling of the Resurrection Cathedral in Yekaterinodar was completed. It had been built in 1802 from pine logs and, after just 30 years, required significant repairs. In the 1870s, considerable funds were needed for its restoration, but they could not be found. In 1878, a decision was made to dismantle the old church. The materials left after the dismantling, such as pine logs, beams, and iron fasteners, were used to build a small wooden Resurrection Church on the same site, known as the Fortress Church. It stood for a short time, and in May 1887, a site was consecrated for a new stone church.

The project for the stone church was likely developed by military architect N.G. Senyapkin, who also oversaw its construction. During the foundation laying, six burials were discovered, including the graves of the Cossack ataman Major General Z.A. Chepega and the military ataman Major General T.T. Kotlyarevsky, who led the Black Sea Cossacks to Kuban in the late 18th century. The graves of Colonel A.S. Vysotsin and military priest R. Porokhin were also found. All were reburied under the refectory of the new church. On June 30, 1892, the stone Resurrection Church was consecrated on the centenary of the land grant to the Black Sea Cossacks in Kuban by Empress Catherine II.

The fence of the Resurrection Cathedral became a burial place for notable residents of the city. A metal chapel was erected over the grave of one of them, ataman F.Y. Bursak, designed by V.A. Filippov.

In early February 1920, the church held the funeral service for cavalry commander Major General K.K. Mamontov, who died of typhus in the Military Hospital. His funeral went unnoticed, and the coffin, accompanied by a platoon of cadets, was transported in a procession along Krasnaya Street to the Catherine (Red) Cathedral, where he was buried with rifle salutes.

On October 9, 1924, the presidium of the Kuban regional executive committee decided to close the church. In the summer of 1930, it was dismantled, and the bricks were sold.
