Church in Honor of Saint Innocent, Metropolitan of Moscow

The parish dedicated to Saint Innocent, Metropolitan of Moscow, a renowned missionary and enlightener, is located at 38 Pogranichnaya Street.

Until 1993, this building was an ordinary residential house. After the establishment of the South Sakhalin and Kuril Diocese in 1993, the administration of South Sakhalinsk transferred it to the Russian Orthodox Church, and a major renovation was carried out in the building. Initially, the diocesan administration was located here, which moved to another place in 1994, and an independent parish was formed on Pogranichnaya Street.

Over the years, the church has become an important spiritual and cultural center for the city's residents. A few years ago, a city Sunday school was opened at the parish of Saint Innocent, and for many years, a lecture series has been held here for all who wish to attend. Thousands of city residents and guests of the regional capital, primarily from the areas of Sakhalin Oblast, have received holy baptism in the church.

Every Thursday, molebens are held in the church before the icon of the Mother of God "The Inexhaustible Cup" for those suffering from alcohol dependence. On Tuesdays, special services are conducted for those suffering from oncological diseases before the icon of the Mother of God "The Queen of All," which is also one of the parish's holy relics.

In 2004, in honor of the parish's 10th anniversary, the community appealed to the administration of South Sakhalinsk to allocate a plot of land for the construction of a new church next to the existing building. More than 2500 signatures from residents were collected in support of this project. The following year, the city administration provided the plot, and in October 2007, the mayor of South Sakhalinsk, Andrey Igorevich Lobkin, signed the permit for the construction of a new Orthodox church.

The new church building was constructed next to the old one, where it is planned to house a Spiritual and Educational Center, a library, and a youth missionary lecture hall.

Since December 2009, services have been held in the new church.
