Church of Saints Cosmas and Damian in Ogibno

Фото 1
The church in honor of Saints Cosmas and Damian in the village of Ogibno was built in the early 21st century on the site where a wooden church, destroyed during the Soviet era, once stood. The original church in Ogibno appeared in the early 18th century, as confirmed by maps of the Novooskolsky district. It was a wooden church consecrated in honor of Saints Cosmas and Damian of Asia.

In 1862, due to the dilapidation of the old building, parishioners constructed a new wooden church, which also bore the name of Cosmas and Damian. In 1869, a church parish school was opened in the village. One of the graduates of this school, Abakumov Ioann Khrisanfovich, was ordained as a presbyter in 1930 by Bishop Onufriy (Hagaluk) of Stary Oskol.

In the early 1930s, the church was closed, and in 1937 it was completely destroyed. In 1999, construction of a new church began on this holy site. On October 10, 2004, Archbishop Ioann of Belgorod and Stary Oskol consecrated the new church in honor of Saints Cosmas and Damian.
