The history of the parish begins when part of the premises of an emergency children's nursery was handed over to the Orthodox community of Severodvinsk. In the mid-1990s, when the prayer room could no longer accommodate all the parishioners, the building was fully transferred to the Church.

Bishop Panteleimon of Arkhangelsk and Murmansk consecrated the church in honor of St. Nicholas, emphasizing the spiritual continuity of the St. Nicholas Church with the closed Nikol-Korel Monastery, which was an important center of Orthodoxy in the region.

Under the first rector, Father Arkady Kononov, the building took on the appearance of an Orthodox church. Workers removed several partitions to free up space, an altar was soon added, and the church was crowned with domes and crosses.

After the consecration, the church underwent several renovations. The latest renovation included the installation of a painted iconostasis, updating church utensils, replacing plumbing, and a complete renovation of the refectory with the addition of a balcony. The exterior of the church was also enhanced: the walls were clad in siding, the roof and domes were painted, the old fence was replaced, and a path was paved for the procession around the church.

The parish supports the Arkhangelsk Regional Specialized Institution "Severodvinsk Social Rehabilitation Center for Minors 'Solnyshko.'" Weekly discussions on "Orthodox Primer" are held in the center's day department, and children from the inpatient department visit the church for spiritual upbringing.

The Nicholas parish has a children's Sunday school and is actively engaged in social and missionary activities.

Attached to the church is a chapel located in the square behind the city hall, consecrated in 2006 in honor of the holy and righteous Prince Alexander Nevsky.
