The parish of the village of Bolshoye Polpino has existed since the late 18th century. The stone church in the village was built at an unknown time and by an unknown person. It consisted of two parts and had two altars. The first part, the ancient refectory, was intended for winter services, and here was the altar in the name of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker. The second part, the summer one, was added in 1855 to the eastern side of the refectory, where the altar in the name of the Forerunner and Baptist of the Lord, John, was located. In 1860, after a fire that destroyed the entire village, the church was severely damaged, but the walls remained intact. The church was restored with the funds of the parishioners. The last priest, Konstantin Nikolaevich Limachev, was arrested on November 20, 1937, after which the church was closed and turned into a village club. In 1943, the church was destroyed.

The parish community was revived in 1994. From June to October 1996, services were held in a private house. From November 1996 to July 2002, they took place in a rented vacant store building. From July to December 2002, services were conducted in a trailer on the territory of the under-construction church. Since December 2002, services have been held in the lower chapel of the church in honor of the Dormition of the Most Holy Theotokos.
