Фото 1
The church is located in the center of the village of Suponevo on a high bank of the Desna River. In the 16th-17th centuries, there was a women's Georgievsky monastery with a wooden church here, which was affiliated with the Svyensky monastery. Later, this place became the property of the Svyensky monastery with a parish church. The modern building of the church in Suponevo was erected with the funds of parishioners between 1828 and 1831, replacing the old wooden church. However, the interior decoration of the church was completed later. In 1847, the side altar in honor of Saint George the Victorious was consecrated, and in 1852, the main altar in the name of the Savior Not Made by Hands. The church remained active, except for the period of 1941-1943, when it was turned into a stable during the fascist occupation.
